My wish for Brisbane is an interactive public art project inviting Brisbane residents to write down and publicly declare and share what their wish for Brisbane is.

Inspired by Candy Chang’s ‘Before I Die’ project, this project involves the installation of boards painted with chalkboard paint, and stencilled with the sentence “my wish for brisbane is _______”. The wall becomes an enlightening way to discover what matters most to the people of Brisbane and how they would like to shape the city.

Wishes will be documented via the blog. It is the hope that the board becomes a starting point in creating a shared dialogue on shaping Brisbane now and in the future.

Please continue wishing via social media: instagram, twitter #mywishforbrisbane, submit your wishes on the website (click submit), or email wishes @ mywishforbrisbane@gmail.com

Special thanks to Potato Press for kindly creating the stencils for this project.

She’ll be apples!

12- 1pm

MapAttack is a (free) real-time location-based smartphone game that turns the city into one big Pac-Man-like gameboard.

Two teams battle for supremacy over a physical territory by capturing digital points on the gameboard. The gameboard, in this case, is the city streets of the neighborhood the players are in. Players can earn points for their team by physically picking up as many digital dots as they can. (See more at Pop-Up City)

PARK(ing) Day was started in 2005 by Rebar to raise awareness about the lack of green spaces in San Francisco’s downtown. It transformed an on-street car park into a ‘people park’ by temporarily providing turf, seating and shade. It is based on the idea that paying for a parking meter is like ‘renting’ a public space.

Our suburbs are a gleaners paradise, the...

Edible Streets Tour

Our suburbs are a gleaners paradise, the overhanging branches and diverse pickings are tribute to our bountiful subtropical climate and multicultural heritage. But the decades of nativist plantings, and the overly-cautious policies that keep food producing trees off of our nature strips lest somebody slip on a macadamia, or be offended by fallen fruit, has dampened the cities potential as a veritable food forest. The edible streets tour offers an introduction to foods, fungi, weeds and other functional plants that inhabit our urban environment. Along the way we discuss the ethical considerations of harvesting, share maps, surplus and ideas to contribute to our edible landscapes. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Forgreenies you can view a short video and photo gallery of a previous edible streets tour now screening on the Permablitz Brisbane website.

The edible streets tour is a International Permaculture Day and Jane’s Walk event.

20 May 2012

8am-5pm

Come down to these delightful Community Gardens in beautiful West End for a day of good friends and food and of course hard work! Our beautiful gardens were destroyed in the 2011 floods and with the help of Permablitz we were able to get back on our feet. Now more than a year later we still have many projects unfinished. Once more, thanks to the dedicated Permablitz volunteers we will be able to have everything looking beautiful and producing food! We’ll have big projects like building raised beds and planting fruit trees and small projects like pruning and weeding; everyone at every skill level is welcome. Help us to not only grow and nurture food but to grow and nurture local community involvement in our little piece of the world.

Places are limited, please RSVP to book your place: contact@blitzbrisbane.org

Postcards to Brisbane (wish you were here) : Grey Street...

Postcards to Brisbane (wish you were here) : Grey Street Exhibition

The High Speed Rail Study is a strategic study by the Australian Government on the implementation of a 350 kilometre per hour high speed rail service on the east coast of Australia. It is currently estimated that this venture, if brought to fruition, will involve 1600 kilometres of new standard gauge, double track and cost in the order of $ 60 - 100 billion.

The study, currently being carried out in two phases, is looking at potential routes from Brisbane to Melbourne, via Sydney and Canberra, as well as the economic viability of such a network
